Increasing Accuracy of the Soil-Agricultural Map by Sentinel-2 Images Analysis—Case Study of Maize Cultivation under Drought Conditions

The properties of soil constitute one the most important features environment that determine potential for food production in a given region. Knowledge texture and agroclimate allows proper selection species agrotechnics plant production. However, contrast to agroclimate, may show large spatial variation physical chemical characteristics within plot. In regions where diversity is so high available maps are not sufficient, only method precise mapping mosaic remote sensing. This paper presents concepts using Sentinel-2 multispectral satellite images detail soil-agriculture map at scale 1:25,000. presented work, following research hypothesis has been formulated: temporal analysis high-resolution can be used improve quality large-scale archival map. It possible due differentiation spectral reflection from field (canopy), which influenced by conditions—especially (granulometric composition) profiles possibility water retention during drought conditions. carried out as case study maize sensing confirmed hypothesis. was based on appropriate term (maize development period: BBCH 79, 6-decade index: CBW = −206 mm) vegetation index (NDVI). made it make 10 times more detailed. obtained results first step developing general model (based sensing) detailing Poland, will significantly accuracy monitoring system developed Institute Soil Science Plant Cultivation (Poland).
